Coldharbour, Haywards Heath
Substantial roof conversion and renovation to a large country house near Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

The original loft space was the convergence of four gable roof structures of different heights punctured by three large chimneys. Early design studies were undertaken to investigate the potential and help our clients better understand the space and how it could be converted.

The result was the creation of an entire new floor of the house, consisting of a large bedroom suite with dressing room, ensuite bathroom, reading room plus extensive storage.

One of the challenges was creating a generous space around the bed. A wide dormer conversion was essential but it needed to look right on the roof of the house.
To resolve this, two gable roofs were placed side by side, the space between was set back to give the impression of two dormer windows. Internally the space is one structure, creating additional room around the bed.

The study was created for reading and music and has views over open countryside.
