Hempcrete Homes
STAGE: PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED

New build sustainable hempcrete ‘healthy homes’ in Lewes, East Sussex.
These houses are designed to be low energy ‘healthy homes’, constructed using timber frame, Hempcrete blocks and lime plaster.
Hempcrete is a bio-based construction material which locks away more atmospheric carbon for the lifetime of the building than was used in its production and use.
The two houses offer a master bedroom with ensuite, two further double bedrooms and family bathroom. Downstairs is designed around open-plan living with a separate utility room and home office or forth bedroom.
The clay tiled hipped roof and gable ends acknowledges the prevailing roof style of the area. A concealed gutter system provides contemporary detail and the gable corbels are integrated swift boxes.
Heating and hot water is supplied by an air source heat pump and the site utilises sustainable drainage systems.
The landscape design increases biodiversity through living green roofs, species rich grass and wildflower lawns and mixed native hedgerow planting.
